Ouch! José Berríos Goes Under the Knife for Tommy John Surgery Well, this isn’t the type of news Blue Jays fans were hoping to hear, but here we are. José Berríos, one of our favorite right-handed pitchers, has had to go through the full Tommy John surgery, ouch . That’s some really tough stuff right there. I mean, it’s a major surgery – not something you want to experience, especially when you’re a professional athlete. Fans, it’s time to start the countdown without our guy on the mound. So, manager John Schneider let us know, thanks to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet. Thus, poor José will be missing out on the entire 2026 season. In fact, it looks like he’ll be benched for a good portion of 2027 too. That’s a lot of waiting and that’s just…not fun. Can you imagine the frustration, the desire to be back on the field? I bet it’s killing him. Why This Matters For the team and the fans, Berríos’ absence will definitely be felt. I mean, we lose a key player for not just one but two seasons. That changes the game, doesn’t it? I wonder how they’re going to fill his shoes. It’s not like you can easily replace a player with José’s skillset. But hey, what can we do?
